Early season, sub-zero belay awesomeness, layered over the TNF Verto Micro hoodie with great success.

Favorite belay (and everything) parka

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

Bought this jacket because I knew I was moving to a land where winter lasts for 6 months - ended up living in it during the polar vortex in December where my state saw some of the coldest temperatures on the planet.

It runs a bit generously, but this is alright with me, because I've been able to toss it on over pretty much anything I've been wearing. Definitely not a super form fitting puff - some gaposis around the hips and wrist gaskets - but when layered, the puffiness kind of fills in these gaps and eliminates drafts. The hip elastic closure helps, too. It's not a sloppy-big fit by any stretch of the imagination.

The Pertex shell is surprisingly resilient for how fragile it looks and feels. Except when you get yo-yo'd by your partner into someone elses ice tools, when I learned that Tenacious Tape sticks well to it, too.

I've turned this jacket into a daily driver: wearing it downtown, to work, as an apres-tour hut fashion statement, while belaying on -10F days in the shade, and so-on. At first I was a bit put off by the trashbag shiny, bright fuschia lined colorway (dark shark), but enough of my lady friends have oohed and aahed over it, that I'm starting to come around.

Who am I kidding, I love ugly, bright colors.

(5'3", 115lbs - I wear a USXS/0 in pretty much everything, went for the UK8/XS)

Best down jacket to date!

My Patagonia Fitz Roy hooded down jacket totally let me down. It was pretty heavy, but not very warm, and the way the hood fit was terrible. I bought the Rab Infinity with high hopes, and it did not disappoint. It's lighter than the Fitz Roy, but WAY warmer. And the hood and neck fits great. It's super comfortable. I bought it in the spring and figured I'd have to wait til fall to put it to use, but Memorial Day was unusually cold where I camped, and I got to try it out. At 24 degrees I was warm with my Infinity jacket on! I would have been cold with my old Fitz Roy. Overall this is one of the best purchases I've ever made at Backcountry.

Outstanding warmth

Just took the Rab Infinity out for its first spin: several days of minus 4 degree temps in Bryce Canyon, Utah. This jacket was outstanding! Tired of being cold wearing my Patagonia down sweater in sub 30 temps, I purchased this jacket based on backcountry.com reviews and online help. I got exactly what I was looking for: outstanding warmth in low temps, even during long lunch breaks.

The fit is perfect. I am 5'7" and weigh 120#. I bought the size small, which fit perfectly over layers (wool tee, long-sleeve shirt, beanie and even a fleece sweater, but that was overkill). It also layered nicely under my waterproof jacket.

Two pluses (beyond the incomparable warmth) are the handwarmer pockets and the hood. Wearing only liner gloves for picture-taking dexterity, the pockets kept my hands plenty warm. The hood fit easily over my beanie, and the elasticized edge is a nice tough, keeping the fit very comfortable and helping to hold in the heat. Also, the soft fabric near the chin was a very pleasant discovery.

Only gripe -- the color and odd sheen. I have the Shark color, shiny and not flattering by any stretch of the imagination. But I bought the jacket for warmth, and it has delivered in spades, so I would highly recommend it for anyone whose priority is to stay warm in bitterly cold temperatures.

Amazing and light

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the Shark, and took it to Everest Base Camp this fall. I would have been very sad not to have had this for night and later in the day. I also take it BC skiing as a layer to put on when we stop for lunch. I love the color and the weight.

LOVE it!

I took this jacket on my winter ascent to Everest Base Camp. Although it was too warm to hike in for most days, it was necessary for the bitter cold nights. It packs down incredibly small and is very light. I bought it in green and the material is so lightweight that it shows the darker feathers, so it looks dirty...that is my only complaint!

LOVE it!

this jacket ROCKS

My boyfriend gave this to me as a birthday present because I'm always so cold. Living in the Northeast, it gets pretty awfully cold here in the Winters and I had trouble finding something that kept me warm enough. That being said, this jacket ROCKS. I have put it to the test wearing it while walking the dogs in below zero temps, hiking, and skiing. When the hood is on and you're all zipped up you feel like you're in a toaster oven. And the great part is the jacket is so light! I was skeptical when I first got it that it would be able to keep me warm because of it's weight but it quickly passed the test. I love that I can stay so warm without the bulk and weight of some other jackets out there. The fit is great too, stylish and true to size. I would definitely recommend this jacket!
