A ski mountaineering pant that handles heat and long, hard climbs with ease.
As you slog through miles of wet snow and bootpack up a steep chute, the Rab Men's Alpine Tour Pant will become your new best friend. Highly breathable eVent fabric takes the sweat out of long skins, hikes, or scrambles in the mountains, and large side vents allow you to release excess heat before it becomes a problem. Rab reinforced the knees to keep rocks from shredding your pants and added Cordura patches to the instep so your crampons can't shred them either. With a regular fit and articulated knees, this pant gives you the freedom to move so you can ski, hike, or climb as necessary. For the ski mountaineer, this is a simple and reliable pant that'll get the job done right every time.
- Midweight eVent fabric features three-layer construction that keeps you dry from external moisture and precipitation while allowing sweat and moisture to escape from within
- Regular fit with articulated knees for freedom of motion
- Reinforced knees and Cordura crampon patches provide additional protection against abrasion
- Side thigh vents uses water-resistant YKK zips that won't jam or leak
- Internal fixed gaiter keeps deep snow out of your boots
- Zip fly with snap-style external closure provides easy access and protection from the weather
- Thigh pockets have YKK zips with storm flaps and a mesh inner lining

These pants had so much potential. I wanted to love them. Rab failed me in the fit. I'm 6'2", 170lbs, 32" waist, 32-34" inseam. I grabbed a medium hoping they'd work. They were 3" too big in the waist, and about 3" too short. They're slightly higher waisted to offer more coverage in the back, and they also have articulated knees. Sadly, these would-be great features only made the pant legs ride up more, as the dimensions weren't right for me. I finally had to call it quits when I had to wear external gaiters to go winter hiking in them, and back to Backcountry they went.
Impressive build quality and the eVent material is light, durable, totally waterproof and keeps the wind out. These kept me dry through 4 hours of rain and 30kt winds. They kept my butt dry on an afternoon pack rafting trip. I found the fabric to have a nice smooth finish, and is substantially lighter than a similar pair of Gore-Tex 2L Norr?na pants I have. The thigh vents are well placed, but the knee pockets are not. Basically useless for anything other than a bit of folded cash. Don't try keys unless you like getting stabbed in the knee.
If you were 34" waist and about 5'10" (30" inseam) the medium would probably fit you well.
Bottom line: A fine pair of shell pants, if you're short and stocky. Beanpoles like myself will have to keep looking.
Thigh pockets and side vents
Waterproof zipper on side vents and thigh pocket. Thigh pocket also has a flap to cover it up.
Not a real big reinforced area. Does have a gaiters but no zips at the cuff.
Slid light weight highly breathable ski pant. Very water proof. I bought the XXL. I usually wear a XL in arcteryx and thought I was going to need bigger these. I was wrong. I would go with what you get normally. No real easy spot to put suspenders if you are a suspender guy. No zipper at the cuffs either. Still pretty good pant
