Here's what others have to say...

How does one specify a mummy model with hood when ordering?

Responded on

Peter,

Up in the drop down where it says "Select style & size" is where you'd do this. Unfortunately at the moment we're all out of the hooded mummy liners for this model.

Is the double-size silk sleeping bag liner a rectangular or mummy shape? Could I have the precise dimensions of the double liner please? Thank you!

Responded on

Karen,

It'll be rectangular.

Here are the dimensions:
Dimensions: 185cm x 185cm (73in x 73in)

life changing!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i cant believe i haven't owned one of these before. i am working with disaster relief in nepal, sleeping in destroyed border towns and totally devastated villages. i have slept on floors, dirty mats, in those border towns where rooms feel like brothels. bugs and leeches, villages where everyone has shaved heads or are involved in community lice picking...and this is my best piece! i almost feel like i am in luxury. i just wrap the mummy part over my head when i sleep and 6 weeks into in...i am comfortable still and lice free! traveling between hot hot and not quite a chill seems to good temperature control too.

Will standard size be restocked?

Yes, we do have this item on back order. Looks like we'll be getting some in early to mid September.

GOAT IS GOOD

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Lost track of my Sea to Summit silk liner so got this one for bikepack trips. Does what it’s supposed to. When too warm, basically slept only in the liner and on trips when temps dropped, used it inside a down 800+ fill bag. This fall, at 9000ft, temps got down below freezing (woke up to snow on the ground) but this liner, in a 45degree rated down bag and me in wool from head to to (literally—beanie, long sleeve shirt, tights, and socks) I was able to sleep comfortably (I did keep a hadron down jacket in my bag that I put on after a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night). Benefit to a bag liner are twofold IMO—likely adds a little additional warmth to a bag and more importantly for me, helps to keep dirt, skin oil and stink from getting on my spendy sleeping bag leaving me to wash the liner periodically and much more easily. Packs small and adds only grams to your kit.

Worked well

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

sliding in and out of the top was easier than I thought. kept the bag just a tab bit warmer.

What is the difference between the Rab...

What is the difference between the Rab standard and the Traveller silk liners? What are the specs? (especially weight, dimensions, shape) Thanks.

Responded on

Hey,

Here are some specs for ya!

Standard 137g (185cm x 92cm)
Standard rectangular sleeping bag liner

Long 158g (210cm x 92cm)
Long sleeping bag liner designed as our standard model but with 25cm extra length

Traveller 155g (225cm x 92cm)
Traveller sleeping bag liner with extra length and fold back pillow slip

Note that the Traveller has a area for a pillow. Reference this URL for more information:

I bought both to compare... here is a little more info:

The Sea To Summit 100% silk has a stretch panel running the length of the bag liner.

The Rab has slits in the sides at the top to make it easier to get in.

I decided to keep the Rab because it seemed easier to get into.

Purchased for Momma here is her review.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Took this up to the Wind River Range in Wyoming for four days. I fell in love with it. I will never go camping again without. It kept me very warm. I was able to just use the silk liners at time, and when I used it with my bag I didn't get cold at all. My husband was jealous (guess I have to buy one for dad now) It was light enough that I didn't notice it all. We had to backpack in to our area and this was light enough my husband approved of it being in my pack.

Roomy, warm, packs well

I used this liner for over a month in below freezing to zero conditions, coupled with a zero degree rated mummy bag. Unless it was on the colder end of the spectrum, I unzipped my bag halfway and still remained comfortable. Its main value was in keeping the down bag clean - my damp socks, gloves and a water bottle slept with me (as well as my sometimes damp baselayer) inside the liner. When it was extremely cold, I kept my down camp booties on as well, and they usually collected some grunge in the evening before I climbed in. Just shook it out in the morning, and stuffed it in the same sack as the bag. The feel of the liner was more pleasant than that of the bag, but the color was a bit odd - seemed more suitable for the playboy mansion than a down bag in the wild...but that's a quibble.

What's the difference between traveller and standard? I'm looking for the smallest one that is rectangular and silk (non mummy). Which one should I get? Anywhere I can find the specs on these liners?

Nice silk liner

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just right, keeps the cleaner, adds a real degree of comfort by cutting down on draft robbing chill, feels great on the skin and only adds 4 oz. to my 2lb. W.M. bag. Plenty of room all over including the feet, very happy.

A sewn together bed sheet

Unfortunately this isn't cut as tapered as I would like and there seems to be an excess of material for a regular sized mummy bag. Also the material feels closer to rayon or polyester than silk. A nice unexpected plus is the mummy version sold by Backcountry is the hooded model.

great silk liner, great price

I decided to buy this silk liner to protect my MH Ultralamina 32 and Montbell UL Spiral and to add a couple degrees to each. So far I've used the liner for about 60 nights with my Ultralamina 32 and I love it. The liner is very comfortable and smooth to the touch. I'd say it adds a degree or 2 (minimal and just barely noticeable), but my two main reasons for owning this liner are:

1. It protects my sleeping bags from dirt/oil and helps preserve the life and loft of my bags.
2. It allows for versatile temperature regulation so I can unzip part of my sleeping bag or cover my or less of my body with the liner to get just the right temperature.

The Sea to Summit liners are of similar quality but cost about 1.5 times as much. I'd highly recommend the Rab silk liners for their great quality and value. The standard silk liner works well in my mummy bags (and is a few bucks cheaper with a negligible weight difference). It weighs 4.8 oz not 12.3 oz as stated to the right.
