Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

One thing I've noticed other reviews missing is how much better it is for catching falls on trad lead. Since gri-gris stop so instantly it puts a lot more of the shock on your protection, whereas the smart gives a little slip to help ease it. This is a great help when your last piece was sketchy or you're ice climbing.

My son decided he wanted to be a big boy and ditch his full body Petzl. We had him try on this and the Edelrid Finn. The Finn was great because the waist was adjustable, meaning his tie in point was always centered. It also had a sliding buckle, meaning putting it on and adjusting it was much faster. Unfortunately the color scheme and padding were the downfalls.

That's where the Wiz Kid comes in. It has enormous amounts of padding, making it comfortable to hang in for a long time. It also has a better color to it, two options (instead of unisex), and has 'cool' gear loops.

4/5 because it could be better with a sliding waist belt and sliding adjust buckle.

I purchased this figuring it was a cheap alternative to a BD guide. I got it and it worked exactly like a guide, until I caught a fall and the metal spring got popped off and list in a sea of rubber. After losing it the device still works just fine for catching, but isn't all that smooth with lowering and locks up the instant you try to pay out slack for a clip.

I'm happy the spring didn't stab anyone in the eye, but if your device can be go from decent to pain in the butt with a detachable 5 cent piece, you probably need to redesign the thing.

I'm going to give it a 2/5 because it's inexpensive and it works well when the spring is in place.
