Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Bought the Maze for winter biking (daily commute). 5 hours after unboxing it brand new, I got demolished by a van running a red light. I know these helmets aren't engineered for cycling in particular, but I think the difference between pavement at 30mph and solid ice or rocks at 30mph is negligible. Somehow I landed on my head and left shoulder, with my helmet taking most of the impact. I don't have much experience with the Maze but while I loved the helmet for it's adjustable air flow, perfect fit, and extremely light weight.. I love it even more for saving my brains. Needless to say I bought another Maze that same day.
Over two years into my second MAZE and loving it. I still use this helmet mainly for winter cycling. Combined with a pair of Smith Knowledge goggles and yellow hi-vis lenses, winter night rides in moderate to heavy snow have become some of the most enjoyable rides of the year. My head stays toasty hours into the ride when temps dip below 20F, and the ear-flap insulation still allows me to hear crucial traffic sounds. (cars approaching from the rear, etc.) If I wreck this helmet, you can believe a 3rd MAZE will come shortly after.
