Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll take a look at the Accelero. I live in the high desert of New Mexico, and in the spring and fall I don't sweat that much on the climbs (or it evaporates quickly), but the downhills can be quite chilling. Two layers, no matter how thin, generally seem to be too much.

Can anyone help on whether this would work as the only layer, next to the skin? I'm looking for something that is windproof or wind-resistant, not insulated, and that would keep me freezing on downhill sections of an MTB trail, but not be too hot on the climbs. Thanks,

I have an MH Alchemy and love it. The fit and finish are superb. I am 5'9", 160lbs and wear a large since the Alchemy seems to be a true performance fit. The shell is pretty tough, but not too stiff, and I use it for mountain biking with just a baselayer down to 20F or so. I also purchased a McKinley large, but returned it as it was too similar to the Alchemy. The McKinley material was slightly stiffer, the lining about the same, but the fit was a little looser. However, if I didn't already own the Alchemy, I would probably have been pretty happy with the McKinley.

The jacket works great. It's comfortable, warm (note that the high-loft lining is considerably warmer than most softshells), and looks fine. I am 5'9", 160lbs and bought a large. The medium would also work on me but would make it more of a performance fit, while I wanted something for around town. On me the large fits well across the shoulders, but the sleeves are a bit long. With a base layer, this would probably work fine down to 20F or so, possibly more if you are working out.

A verfy good-looking jersey, perfect for mountain biking as it fits looser than tradtional bike jerseys. The material feels strong, and functions well. However, the zipper has two problems: it tends to catch at the top of the zipper, making it a little hard to open sometimes; and the interior side of the top of the zipper is not covered, making it a scratchy. I am 5';9" and the large fits well.
