Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I first saw a Jetboil in action when I went through land survival school in the military. The instructors used them and made us students boil water the hard way; in a can, over a fire, in the rain and snow. The Jetboil boils water so fast it is impressive. When I started backpacking and mountaineering I bought the Zip. 1. It's smaller, which means lighter and easier to fit in a pack. I had read that the cup of the Sol was thinner and I wanted something that would take some abuse. 2. It's old school. There is no built in ignition, which means less stuff to break. I like using a flint striker to light it, hasn't failed yet (5 years). 3. It's cheaper. We all want the really fancy gear, but who can really afford it? Not this guy, but for the money the Zip is legit.

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size

When I ordered these boots they didn't have any reviews so I was a bit skeptical. I liked the style of them so I figured I would give them a shot. They are perfect for what I wanted, 'tweeners, that is, something for in-between seasons. The great Pacific Northwest can get a little wet, snowy and cold sometimes. These are perfect for when the snow isn't too deep and they are great when it's raining. I was able to test the waterproof feature immediately; walked around outside in the rain for about an hour and my feet were bone dry. In the snow or if it's a little chilly out, around 40, I think they are best paired with a wool sock. I find that to be the perfect combo, not too warm so my feet don't sweat, which is a problem that I have often. They fit true to size and look good doing it. So good, actually, that I ordered a brown pair as well. 10 out of 10 for casual, daily use in-between seasons.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought a pair of the Titan mittens 2 years ago. Great price for a Gore-Tex liner mitten. My fingers get a little chilly up here in the Northern Rockies but these mittens were the first ones to fix that. They held up good enough so I figured I would get the fresh colors for this year. When they arrived I thought they sent me the wrong liners. They switched from being a mitten liner to a normal glove liner! I'm buying a mitten so that my fingers are together to stay warm so I was not very happy to find the glove liners. Thinking about sending them back, I bought a pair of Hestra Heli mitts on SAC. Now those are some mittens!
