Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used Look bindings since the Nevada came out in the 60's. I use them now because they are easy to get in and out of and I don't release prematurely out of them at a relatively low DIN setting for my size, age and ability. They have a lot of absorbancy before they release but release when they should.

Fit: True to size

Weight: 175 lbs
Size Purchased: Medium

I bought as an outer shell for skiing and have the Stoney pant as well. I am 5'11", 175 lbs and the fit of a medium is roomy, but not too large. I can get a base layer, intermediate layer, and a down sweater under it, snugly, but can still move. Workmanship is excellent. I particularly like the removable hood as with a helmet they just get in the way. The removable powder skirt is nice as well. If not needed take it off and its out of the way. This is a great all-weather shell.

This shell does exactly as advertised. I don't miss a bunch of extra pockets as I usually don't use them anyway. It is strictly a shell to keep out the wind and weather. I am 5'11", 175 lbs, ordered a medium and it fits perfectly bearing in mind it has an athletic cut. Despite this, there is room for a base and intermediate layer. A down sweater over these is a bit snug in the sleeves but a down vest works well. I bought it for spring skiing and it is perfect for that.

I bought this shoe after using a Vittoria MTB carbon fiber sole for a number of years. While I liked the shoe, it was narrow and my foot isn't, as well as the ratchet release mechanism was difficult to release.

I have a spinal cord injury which has left me with a number of challenges, among then is my right foot drops. I've dealt with it for 25 years which includes riding a recumbent trike instead of a road bike. Recently, I was able to get an ankle-foot orthotic (AFO) to address this condition, even when cycling as it takes up almost no room in a bike shoe or any shoe, for that matter. I use a MTB shoe as they're easier to walk in. My Vittoria's top strap is not long enough to comfortably get around my wide, high instep foot as well as the support going up from the AFO.

This shoe works perfectly. The support which goes across the outside of my foot does not bind and there is room for it and still close the top buckle, though it is close. Also the ratcheting mechanism is easy to release. My left foot is normal and this shoe is the best fitting shoe I've ever worn on it, even before the injury.

I've not given the shoe five stars as the cleat plate is nearly impossible to adjust for and aft or on an angle. That is my only complaint.

For those with wide feet, high insteps or both, this shoe is ideal. THe sole is quite stiff, as I'd expect it to be. The other review mentioned some possible lack of grip in the sole. I've not noticed that myself.
