The beacon is great. Tons of reviews all over the web on how good and fast it performs and I agree. I have had a few instances where we had about 10 beacons buried around a field and it had trouble picking the closes one. It kept telling me to stop and hold steady. I believe the new firmware fixes some of that according to the description but i have not tried it and the chance of trying to find 10 buried people in the backcountry at once is unlikely. With 3 buried beacons its worked great. Also when close to my iphone its done some weird things sometimes, from the interference i guess. I choose just not to bring my phone(no reception anyways). It works great when you need it most, its light, and worth every penny if its not overkill for you.

Bought it to use on a full moon night backcountry trip we did. Worked great, lighted up the way better than I thought it would, the red light is a great feature to preserve your night vision and not blind others. Only con is that the battery is not sealed so water/snow could possibly get in the casing, but it hasn't caused any trouble yet. The strap system is nice and versatile for bike helmets.

I use this with my North Face backpack which has a shoulder insulation. With the combination of both I haven't had too many problems with freezing, especially once we start climbing for a while and body heat keeps everything pretty warm. There have been occasions where the water in the line froze, 5ºF/-15ºC outside temp range. Solution during those days is just to blow the water back into the bladder. A big disadvantage for me was the lack of a valve, but I just transferred one from my other hose on there.

Great helmet, very warm and versatile with the 2 different pads that come with it. I haven't had to wear anything underneath to keep warm this winter. Vents in front of helmet work great with my oakley googles to help with venting, just make sure no snow gets clogged in them.Gave it 4/5 stars because the helmet didn't come with a carrying bag. Some other smith helmets do but for some reason this model did not. The bag would of made it more convenient to carry/protect, especially in the backcountry where you usually don't put the helmet on until the descent

Overall

Overall this pack is great. It supported all the weight of my gear no problem, The vertical straps held on to my snowshoes firmly while coming down. The hydration pocket kept the water line that goes trough the strap from freezing. Just be careful when using the horizontal mounting so that snowboard's lower edge doesnt rub on the lower straps. Overall i think its a great buy and it has a lifetime warrantee on it which is great.
