Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have two pads that I use depending on the bag I pack: the BA Insulated Q-Core, and an Exped DownMat 9. Both are great pads--warm and comfortable. The advantage to the Q-Core is pack size and weight as it is considerably smaller than the Exped.

I tend to be a "cold" sleeper and generally pack a bag that is 10 to 15 degrees warmer than than the lowest expected temps. I have used the Q-Core with a 15 degree BA Down bag down to the mid-20's and been very comfortable with only a light base layer. I am a big guy at 6'4" and 245# and the pad is very comfortable even as a side sleeper.

Once concern (as with any inflatable pad) is to make certain that the tent floor or the ground is clear of stickers or cactus as it would not take much of a "stick" to have a guy on the ground.

I would highly recommend the pad, and as always, Backcountry's customer service is second to none.

This is my second BA bag. I use a "Hog Park" poly bag when camping off the motorcycle but turn to the Mystic SL when Backpacking or when the forecast is 40 degrees or below.

I am a big guy at 6'4" and 245# so I really appreciate the generous cut of the Mystic SL as it allows me to sleep comfortably even on my side. I tend to be a cold sleeper and generally want a bag rated 15 degrees or so higher than the expected low for the night. I have used this bag into the mid 20's and was very comfortable wearing a silk base layer.

A couple comments: The secret to any BA bag is to use the warmest pad available. I am using the BA Insulated Q-Core pad with the Mystic SL--I use an Exped DownMat 9 with my poly bag--and think they are both great products.

Overall the quality of construction, the materials used and the usability of this bag is very satisfactory. At a little less than 2.5 pounds it packs small and is a joy to carry. I am well pleased with the purchase and as always, Backcountry's customer service is second to none.

I am a big fan of waking up warm, comfortable and well rested. This bag gets me there!
