rory bosio's Bio

Spend my days (and sometimes nights) running in the mountains. Ideally for +8hrs because that's how long it takes me to get in my groove. Ultra-running nerd. But if there's snow on the ground then it's ski time.

I have an expensive watch that I wear on special occasions. I also have a Nixon Vega that's my every-day watch. The vega gets 10xs as many compliments as the fancy-schmancy watch. Probably because it's just so freaking cool. Love the stretchy band and chunky design. Wish I had one in every color!

With these poles and a decent pair of skis, all that's missing to turn you into a true nordic skier is a onesie spandex race suit. These poles are really light. I barely notice a difference in performance between these and the higher priced model (the stars). Unless you're trying to make the olympic team, I would say these are great for the more experienced skiier looking to gain an edge without shelling out the money for the most expensive model.

Swix's pro-fit handle straps are also by far the best. I've tried other brands but my hand never stays put as well as w/ Swix.

I live in this shirt. Luckily I have it in a few colors so I'm not walking around like a cartoon character all the time. This is my favorite shirt to wear running in the summer or whenever I'm really working up a sweat because it is uber light and dries wicked fast. High neck lines bother me but since this is a v-neck I never feel constricted. The fit through the torso isn't too boxy but it isn't too much of an hour glass shape either. Just right. I've ran in it 24 hrs straight and never felt like I needed to change out of it. Definite keeper!

I love this jacket. You know that one piece you always have in your backpack because its dependable, packs up small, is lightweight, fits great and gets the job done? This is that jacket. It's no frills, nary a bell or whistle, or pockets, or useless zippers and doo-dads that just add needless weight. But it is damn near water proof (I'd say very very water resistant) and defintely provides great protection against wind. Hard to believe it's so durable given how light it is. Plus, it is one of the few rain jackets that's comfortable to run in. My only critique is that it could be slightly longer in the arms, but I am built like a monkey.....
I use it for running, hiking, mtb biking and cross country skiing. I'm 5'8", avg build and wear a medium. Highly recommended!

I ran a ton in these shoes all summer long on a variety of trails from smooth fire roads to gnarly single tracks. They performed great in all conditions, except for slick muddy terrain, in which case I wish they had a little more stickiness on the sole. I tend to be a heel striker. The amount of drop in these shoes is just right. It prevents heel striking and instead helps me land more on my forefoot. My foot is on the wider side and the toe box never feels too tight as many other women's shoes do. They strike the perfect balance between minimalism and lightweight construction but still provide enough support for rugged trails so I don't feel like I'm wearing a slipper.

For me the true test of a trail shoe is how long I can coninuously run in the shoe. I ran an entire 106 mile ultra race in the alps in my one pair of hyper tracks. No blisters. No sore spots. In every single other 100 mile running race I've always had to switch shoes halfway through. That fact alone makes the hyper tracks my favorite running shoe!

Ingenious! This is an essential piece of my running wardrobe. I wear it for longer runs & in ultra races when it's necessary to carry extra stuff. The pocket is big enough to store numerous gels, bars, etc. I've never had a problem with things falling out of the pocket while running. Before I had the stow-n-go I would just stash things dirtectly in my bra but would always be chaffed by the end of my run. No longer a problem since the pocket creates a barrier between the skin & all the paraphernalia a runner has to schelp around. Other reviewers commented that the pocket doesn't conceal the items well enough. As a small boobed gal I don't find this a problem as it just makes me look bustier:-) But yes, it is obvious when items are stuffed into the pocket. I don't mind.
I've noticed The North Face's bras tend to run small. I usually wear a small (5'8", 130ish, 36A) in other brands but have this is a medium since the small was too tight.

I love these. I wear them all the time in colder conditions. Despite being pretty lightweight they keep my hands toasty. The mitten flap is easy to tuck in if your hands get too warm. However, they are not water proof and will get wet in the rain. But if it's just blustery out then these are my go-to gloves. My only wish is that they were longer in the wrist.

I bought this jacket for my friend's baby (shown in pic). She lives in it! The material is super soft & keeps her warm in cooler conditions. Easy to get on and off & doesn't take up too much room in the baby bag for packing. The hood stays on really well (a pet peeve I have since a lot of hoods fall off the baby's head too easily). A great baby shower gift. What parents wouldn't want their kid looking stylish and keeping warm at the same time?

This jacket is an essential piece of my running wardrobe. I love it! Super light weight yet keeps me warm on those days when a heavier jacket is just too much. Very windproof & water resistant. I wouldn't use it in a downpour but it works in a light drizzle. Great for aerobic activities such as hiking, running, xc skiing, or being chased through the woods by bears. I especially like how it moves. I never feel restricted as opposed to other jackets. The flash dry fabric seems to breath &/or absorb moisture because I stay dry even when I'm working up a sweat. Super cool! I'm 5'8" 130ish and wear a medium because i like a roomier fit but a size small could also work.

This is the only hand held bottle I use. I use it in training runs & ultra races for numerous hours(+10) at a time. It is comfortable & light weight even w/ the pocket stuffed full. I've tried other hand-helds but they never fit my hand as well. I like the adjustable hand strap because it maintains a tight enough grip so it never feels like the bottle is going to fall off my hand, but it doesn't rub or chaffe. The thumb/finger indentations on the bottle provide good grip as well.
The pocket is large enough to hold a few gels or couple packs of bloks. Other hand helds don't have as much storage space.
I like the kicker valve but it does take some getting used to. The valve is stiff at first but after a few uses it pops out easier. I actually prefer the kicker valve since it is softer than the hard plastic found on other bottles. I've never had issues w/ leaking.
My only critique is that the hand strap does loosen after a while (months of use, maybe I'm expecting too much!) making it harder to get a tight grip on my hand. Also, people with small hands might not be able to get the strap tight enough. But overall I'm very satisifed with this product/price and will continue using it.

the buff is the duct tape of headwear. Actually better because not only is it extremely versatile (there are a gazillion ways to wear a buff) it's stylish as well. I have numerous buffs and wear them year round. Barely takes up any space in a pack. Great for bad hair days (so everyday for me) & keeping the ears toasty in cold conditions. They make great gifts too. The pic shows a polka dot buff, wore it for a100km run in rain, snow, wind etc. It kept my head warm.

I used to be a skirt skeptic until I tried this skirt. I love it! I ran 18hrs continuously in it & never once was uncomfortable. It's light & moves well. I never noticed it riding up. The shorts underneath are comfy & provide a modicum of decency if you're doing high kicks, or lunges, or ballroom dancing. I wish the skirt was 1/2in shorter but overall I'm very happy with it.

This is the best headlamp in terms of lighting. I used it during a running race and the battery lasted the entire night. Works decently on lithium aaas too. I'm really impressed with the brightness & how well it works in fog/rain/snow. The reactive technology is cool but I'm not sure if I notice it after a while. Which is maybe the point. For techies, the customization options are fun.On the con side it is heavier than other lamps but the weight doesn't bother me. It stays put really well. It is pricey but being able to see well in the dark is....priceless.
