Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great jacket! A minimalist Denali jacket. Same 300 Polartec fleece but w/o the extra pockets. I can wear this jacket when the temps go down to the low 50'sor even in the high 40's here in the bay area in Ca. w/only a TKA 100 fleece underneath. It's also a great mid-layer insulation under a shell. The only thing I wish for is a hooded version that is windproof and a smooth taffeta lining inside so that when you slip your arms inside if your wearing a long sleeve, it doesn't bunch up. It just goes in smoothly.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I live in the bay area in California & I bought this jacket for winter use. I start work at 3am where the temperature has actually been down to the low 30's. I use to just wear a NF TKA 100 fleece long sleeve, then a NF Khumbu fleece jacket, then a NF outer shell jacket, and a NF Highpoint beanie. But even with 3 layers of clothing, I still feel the cold. With this down jacket, all I wear now is a long sleeve and this jacket. The 550 fill down is more than enough to keep me warm. As far as the zipper goes (from other reviewers), there's really nothing wrong w/the zipper. You would really have to abuse the zipper before it breaks. One of the good things about this jacket is the insulated hood. I don't really need to wear a beanie under it. I would definitely recommend this jacket.
