5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very true to fit. My husband is 5'10" 160lbs with normal proportions and the medium fits great. The fabric is soft and the red stitching on the blue background looks great (midnight and paprika). He hasn't worn these on any winter ascents yet, but based on the first few times he worn it, he says he think it'll be an awesome base layer. These are great for anyone who hates to be cold!

Worth every penny
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My husband and I each have a pair and we recently hiked 15 miles over frozen snow and solid ice up to Mt. Charleston. These were great! Simple to put on an take off, very light weight, and did exactly what they were supposed to do. I wear a size 10.5 in women's shoes and my husband wears 9.5 in men's and the medium size worked great for both of us. I recommend these to anyone who might encounter snow or ice on a trail. After 15 miles, the teeth show no wear at all. Also, I'm a clutz and these did not cause me to trip or stumble once (unlike my crampons).

Everything about these seemed awesome until I tried them on (I'm female). The fit caused my nostrils to pinch shut so that I couldn't breath through my nose. If I moved them higher up onto the bridge of my nose, they were nearly entirely on my forehead. Thought maybe it was just me so I had a friend try them on too(he's male), and the same thing happened to him: they instantly squished his nose shut. Had to send them back and bought some Smith goggles instead.

Different from the 2008 model
3 5

Same great edginess and grip, no ridge for heel-hooking, but I didn't find it that useful on the 2008 model anywya. I bought this shoe to replace my 2008 version (had them resoled twice)- these have been my favorite climbing shoes. Smith climbing, bouldering, gym climbing, I love them for everything but smearing.

However, even though I bought the exact same size as my previous pair (which took about 3 weeks to break in and are still quite snug), they arrived too big by perhaps a full size. Both were size 42s, but the new version is already too big for me.

Definitely need to try these on in a store before buying on line- inconsistent sizing between the two models.
