If you go to winter climbing and the probaility to catch a serious rain storm is high, you want to bring this jacket, 2 Gore Tex Layer is more than enough to keep you dry for hours even days. But if you go in good weather with low rianfalls and not so much moisture a lightweight (non gore tex) could be better. It has an internar layer that prevents damges in the jacket. Ir is also large, it is usefull to sit on rocks or snow to fix crampons or other stuff. Front pockets are easy accesible and hood is well designed. Before this jacket I had a Marmot 3L gore tex (400 us) and the service offered by the Mera peak is the same at less cost
