I bought these to replace my old shimano m220 full carbon shoes. I didn't want to spend $300+ for replacements, so I researched these. And they were just as the reviews had said about width and space. They are about as wide as my etnies. The space from the footbed to the tongue is huge. I pulled the straps as snug as I could. Too loose. I switched out the insoles for some etnies with arch supports. Perfect. I even have some adjustability with the straps. These are the kinda of shoe you put on and wear. Like at a race, you may not go back to the car to put on street shoes. Pretty darn comfortable off the bike.
On the bike they aren't quite as stiff as my old full carbons, but I didn't think they would be. Don't get me wrong, they are stiff, but not to the point of full carbon. The vents work. From time to time I will get a rush of air on my feet. Or water. The buckle is pretty cool. You can release one click of tension with one finger. I'm very happy with these. You can take the insole for what it's worth. I had an extra pair of insoles in the closet. Changed them out and it's a completely different shoe.
