Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size

I've been wearing Zamberlan for years and have always been impressed. I have a pair of their old style hiking boots- leather uppers, vibram soles, and the fantastic cambrelle lining- and they are about 8 years old and still going strong. The SH Crosser GTX is a departure for Zamberlan stylistically, and I have not put the boots through their paces for long, but so far they are performing well in Atlantic conditions- hiking across rocky terrain and then down onto the salt water beach for four miles-- they are comfortable, light, and yet they keep the rocks away from your toes. Funky red/ pink color was a bit odd at first but now I think they're a gas. These boots won the Editors Choice Award from Backpacker Magazine for 2013, so they will likely be around for awhile. Ordered via Amazon from Backcountry and the service was as good as ordering directly. Update: 3 months of use and these boots show no sign of wear. And I am very hard on footwear.

Typically excellent North Face quality at a reasonable price. These are lighter than the Arctan pants, perfect for all- round wear-- hiking, walking, sitting on your ass on an airplane and enjoying being twice as comfy as you would be in killer cotton. And as always, Backcountry's customer service is beyond compare. Being Canadian, I'm used to the "I'm doing you a big favor talking to you and in my real life I'm a famous actor" type of service. This company kicks butt, and the prices are great too. A pull cord at the ankles like the Arctan Pants would be helpful.

These are fabulous pants- excellent material, expertly put together. I've stuck with North Face for years. Recently sent in a pair of Apex Climbing pants which I lived in constantly for approximately five years to have the pocket zippers repaired. Done at no cost. Shipped back to me via Purolator. Unlike Columbia, NF has not sold out. They make a great product at a very competitive price. And Backcountry gives probably the best darn customer service in the USA-- an otherwise lost art.
