Familiarity: I've used it several times
This shoe is brilliantly lightweight, and I had absolutely no problems with walking them in - very comfortable, with no blisters or issues on my first 4-day hike...! I would say, however, that they are not suitable for hardcore hiking, as the soles are not thick and sturdy enough, and the high ankle provides minimal support (the lace-up system also makes it difficult to tighten fully around the ankle)... they are really souped-up trail running shoes.
For more serious hiking, I would recommend proper hiking shoes (and salomon has some great hiking boot options).
But for light hiking and walking, they are great!
I haven't had a chance to try out their waterproofness yet, since I have so far only used them in dry conditions - some people complain that their feet get sweaty in them, but I haven't had that problem.
