I like these shorts a lot, but I have another pair that I like even more, the Gore Bike Wear Power II Short from BC. It looks like they don't have them any more, but jump on them if they come back up, they're great. More comfortable on century rides, and I like the way the fabric slides over the saddle better. They were also a bit cheaper than the Pearl Slice. I will say this, the Pearls are longer, which is nice if you don't like the short shorts look. And they're my second most comfortable pair. But my rear does start to get a little sore after mile 45. In all fairness, this could be a consequence of my rear or my saddle and not the shorts.

As far as my nightly commute home goes, I was getting by with the Planet Bike Beamer 3 LED light. It was alright as about 75% of my way was lit by streetlights and the rest had enough ambient light for me to get by, but I kept hitting this one giant pothole on a dark corner. Finally I ponied up for the minewt mini and have been very impressed. The light output of the minewt blows away that of the beamer: I've tried them side-by-side on a dark road or just inside facing a wall you can't even tell that the beamer's on if the minewt is on. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised given the price difference, but I was. And I haven't hit that pothole since.

The cable pictured here doesn't look like it would fit the minewt mini (it needs the male end shown in the 36" extension cable picture). Is it just the wrong picture? -- Note: in answering my own question, I ordered it as per ClubRider's suggestion. It is, in fact, the wrong picture and it does fit the minewt mini, and makes my light setup much nicer.
