Mark's Bio

A Midwest forest-romper by birth, Mark migrated to SW Montana in 2008 after a university stint near 10,000 lakes and hasn't looked back since. A long passion for alpine skiing has led to a lasting affair with ski touring and mountaineering, while a distain for certain aspects of popular society leads to weeks spent backpacking during the warm months. Mark believes the best landscapes have lots of topography, and that that topography looks best with a coat of snow, and thus has one of the only confirmed cases of Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Mark lives and works in Big Sky, MT financing his passion with ski instructing, odd jobs around town, writing, music, and photography.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love this thing. Bought with intended use being winter/spring ski camping and got the long for the extra space for drying gear (I'm ~6'). So much room in there; with liners at my feet the hood still completely covers my head, and I can roll from side to side without getting claustrophobic. This bag is comfy and toasty; coldest outside temps were around 10*F and I slept like a rock. Have woke with some serious condensation in the tent, the treated down still stays lofted and warm; dries quickly in the sun. The low weight is wonderful, too; same weight as the cheap summer bag I bought before this. Love the color, too; things don't get lost in the bright green.

I always look forward to a night spent in my Zissou, no matter where or when.

My initial reaction to this bag was disappointment, but after more thorough testing turns out I was just using it too far below the temp rating. That being said, it only kept me warm during late July and August in the San Juans of CO; June and September definitely left me wanting a little more insulation. Great bag for the price, but remember this a Summer bag; really great for mid-summer/warm weather/crashing at a friend's couch, but I'll be packing a lower temp bag from now on..
