I really wanted to love these shoes and they would be great except that the heel is so wide, it slips up and down on my foot. A half size smaller and my toes would be crunched. I had to insert my Heel Seats to keep my foot from floating around along with wearing very thick socks (which is not good for summer weather). I have a really wide foot which is why I liked this shoe, but the heel is not narrow enough and slips up and down when I walk. I guess if you have thick ankles they would fit. The shoes holds well on loose dirt and scree, but is better suited for heavy terrain. These are very heavy shoes and not suited for flat terrain or light hiking. The shoes is comfortable except for the heel slippage (I have logged about 50 miles on them so far). They are very warm, so don't be deceived by the A/C. My feet get very hot. The mesh dries quickly if you get it wet. I have not been on really rocky terrain or wet rock, so I cannot judge their performance on that terrain. Walk around the store in them a lot before buying to see if they slip up and down on your heel. They are too bulky and heavy for light hiking or flat terrain.
