Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am a pretty aggressive resort skier who wanted to start doing backcountry tours in the Tahoe area so was looking to get something that could be stiff enough for inbounds skiing and to be as similar as possible in flex to my Tecnica Diablo alpine boots. That said, I also didn't want to break the bank with models offered by Garmont or Dynafit.

I tour with the Cochise W100 on a pair of Moment Bibby 174s with Barons and ski inbounds with them on a pair of 168 Rossi S7s. After skiing on these boots for 2 months, my bottom line is this: they are fairly heavy, but functional, for the backcountry and perform OK inbounds. I found that the flex can be a bit too soft inbounds, especially when coming up against choppy snow and crud when the flex allows you to get tossed around. If you are looking for a boot that can be used for mostly inbounds and dabbling in the backcountry and you don't have an option to get two pairs, this is a good compromise. But were I to do it again, I probably would have gone for a more purebred AT boot.
