Kaelyn S.wrote a review of Marmot Freya 35 Backpack - 2020-2150cu in - Women's on October 25, 2011
I had wanted to give this pack a few more outings before I came to any final conclusions. The calendar can be cruel sometimes, so I am basing this review on but one trial.
I was on an overnighter, but I was also carrying food and sleeping gear for my dog. I know that if I had been able to pack a little lighter, the Freya would have been nearly perfect, in fit, in air flow, in load stability. The many features, like the zippers and elastic gear lashing points, all got tested - and were all appreciated.
If I have any complaint at all, it's more about "the industry" in general and not about the Freya. Going to lighter weight packs has been a good thing, but any adjustability has been sacrificed. Translation: Yah, you can make a women's pack in a "small" that is great, but if I could just move the shoulder assembly a mere inch, it would be PERFECT! Additionally, I cut off 18" of waist band strap (9" from each side). How about devoting that unnecessary weight toward adjustable shoulders straps? Ah, but I digress...
Simply stated, this is a good pack with lots of cool features, good looks and flexibility for multi-useage. However, it is designed to carry a much lighter load than I had that day. Stick to twenty pounds and under and you should be fine.
