Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I saw these at trail days a couple years ago, and bought one from Nemo directly. Mine was one of the first, and as such I expected to encounter some glitches. After many many nights of comfortable sleep, some of the baffles separated and I ended up with a big blister in the middle. I called Nemo, they sent me a new one, haven't had a problem with it since. I am a big guy, 235 lbs, 6'2", and I was comfortable sleeping on my side with this pad. Plus, the built in foot pump keeps you from losing consciousness trying to inflate it.

What a great stove. I have had one since boy scouts, and even now that I'm 25, it works great! not the world's most efficient stove, but it boils water and does everything that is needed of it. my one problem with it is that the "range" part of the stove is so small it tends to burn really hot in a small area. If I hadn't misplaced it, I would never have bought another stove. For cold weather use, keep the canister in your sleeping bag or near your person in your bag for best results.

Fit: True to size

I bought a couple pairs of these for my thru hike, and I have been very impressed with their performance! I could wear these things for days without having the chaffing problems I have with regular boxers. They are expensive, but when you're on day 3 of wearing them hiking 18 miles a day with a heavy pack through Virginia in the summer, you will be glad you spent the extra money!

I did 1200 miles of the AT with this pack in 2012, and there were a few problems with the previous model. there were rub points between the hip belt side straps and the shoulder strap bottom mounting points, and I had to actually send it in to get it fixed. Osprey gave me a new pack so I could continue my hike, but I am starting to see the same wear on the pack they replaced mine with which is to be expected. This new model however has an improved system that has fixed the previous problems... all the features I wished my old one had, this one has. Thanks Osprey for listening to what we all wanted! This pack can carry whatever it is you need it to, and keep you comfortable while it does. yes it's a little heavier than some other packs, but that is all because of the extra support it gives!

I bought my Carson 80 from backcountry probably 6 years ago, when i was getting ready for my trip to philmont in boy scouts. what actually had happened was i had purchased a kelty external frame, and backcountry didn't realize they were out of them until after i had ordered. A REAL PERSON called me, and told me that although they didn't have the kelty, they would sell me the carson 80 at the same price due to the trouble i had gone through. they told me it was a good pack, and they were right. after all this time, the only thing that has worn out on it is the straps, but that's because they are the old design and apparently i can get a new pair for free from JanSport. i took this pack on a 10 day trip at Philmont, New Mexico, i took it on 2 trips on the massachusetts section of the AT as well as other memorable journeys. I also gave it to a friend of mine who took it to South America and Africa with them. every trip i have taken it on, it has performed beyond my expectations. the other thing about it is, it NEVER runs out of room! it's magical how much stuff you can put in it! it may be a bit worn in, but it's still running strong! thank you backcountry for this wonderful pack! my one complaint is that because it has so much room, everyone will want to fit what they can't fit into your bag!
