I own 5 pairs of an earlier (~2010) version of these. A few notable differences:
1) The belt buckle is improved (the previous version had springs that eventually fell out of all of my pairs -- this one has no moving parts)
2) The main pockets are smaller (the earlier versions' were like Mary Poppins' bag -- I could fit a one-liter water bottle with room to spare...used on more than one occasion to smuggle a cool pint glass out of a bar)
3) The waist is much much wider, which they apparently call "relaxed fit". As someone who normally wears 32 waist, I'm returning the medium...they looked like clown pants on me. They felt a tad shorter to me too, though I might be imagining that.
