Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these to hike the Inca Trail (4 days, 28 mi and 1520m ascent). I took them out for a short acclimatization hike the day before the trek with no problems. Light weight, stable and decent looking, score.
The shoes held up like a champ on trek Day 1, feet were warm and dry in muddy/wet conditions.
I put them back on for Day 2 and immediately felt immense pain on the front of my inner ankle bone when I secured the lace, it was bruised. I swapped out the insoles for my superfeet hoping it would change my foot positioning to relieve some pressure. I also applied a thick blister bandage and thick socks for cushioning. It helped some but by days end (16 km w/920m ascent) I was in serious pain. Loosening the lace didn't help because my ankle still hit the inside of the shoe.
I couldn't bare to wear them on Day 3 and opted for Teva sandals instead.
Overall my foot was comfortable, blister-free, warm and dry. The deal breaker however was the ankle support. Thanks to Backcountry's awesome return policy they'll be going back. Strongly considering giving the low ankle style a shot.
