Searched high and low for a "best value" pair of dedicated hiking pants. Returned several and then found these. I've always found Columbia to be a quality brand and these pants are no exception, HOWEVER, beware, they fit very tight through the seat and hips. I even sent them back and got a larger waist size but they still fit too tight through the hips and backside/crotch area.
For outdoor wear I don't want tight or close fitting and I don't want baggy. I want close but with relaxed fit in the hips and waist to facilitate movement. I think these pants lack this. BUT, if you're build like a pole with zero hips or butt, these might be just the ticket.
Also, I believe these are really best fitted for dedicated hiking. The idea is you don't want a big belt or hardly anything else in your pockets when you're hiking. If you understand what I mean then these pants are perfect provided they fit well. For now I've given up the search for perfect hiking pants because I can't find any online that I'm confident will have true waist and inseam with a "relaxed" fit.
I'll have to wait until I can get somewhere I can try pants on. If you have that option you should do so and then compare prices from the store to on-line.
