Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought the 7 pump M (I'm 5' 5"). I haven't slept on a pad in almost 20 years because of several lower back and shoulder injuries. I've had to use a cot, and cots suck. I bought this to go camping with my son and his Boy Scout troop (no carrying cots on this trip). After a weekend on this pad, I am absolutely ecstatic! No more cots for me! There is enough thickness in this pad, once it's inflated, to allow you to sleep comfortably on your back or your side. It felt like my bed - didn't feel like the ground at all. I'm also always cold, and this kept me very warm. It was simply amazing! I recommend this for anyone who has back problems. And, contrary to other reviews you'll read, this is very easy to inflate. I timed it: you push on the pump every 3 seconds, and it takes 2 minutes. It's not a hassle, and doesn't keep you up an extra half hour to inflate - so don't worry about that. This pad rolls up very small and light - I hung it on the outside of my backpack, and never noticed it. Also, this pad is very tough. We were camping on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, and got hit with 40 mph sustained winds with gusts at 60 mph and driving rain. We lost 4 tents in one night. Mine collapsed and filled with water. The next day, I set my tent back up, wrung out my clothes and sleeping bag, and checked this pad. No punctures, no tears, and no water in it - nothing! I threw it in the grass and piled stuff on top of it to keep the mud off my other gear. The outside of the pad dried off immediately, and I had a very nice sleep on it the next night (still had the 40 mph sustained winds, but at least no rain). I HIGHLY recommend this pad!!!! Well worth the financial investment!
