Familiarity: I've used it several times

I own about 9 Arc'teryx pieces and they all vary greatly in fit. This jacket is bomb-proof and will probably weather anything nature can throw at you. I returned it due the fact that it fits Huge. I always buy XL (6-6, 210 lbs) so I can layer. But this jacket has so much extra room that I felt lost in it. It also is kind of overkill for 95% of the time I need a shell. I wore it on Rainier and Mt Washington but I could have gotten by with a lighter shell. I ended up getting an Alpha LT for Winter and an Alpha FL for Summer.

Years ago, I always passed on anything from Arc'teryx due to the high prices. I usually went with Mountain Hardwear. But after buying my first Arc'teryx and experiencing the fit and quality. I was a convert.
Several pieces (and dollars) later, it's the main brand that I buy. If you are tall and slim Arc'teryx is made for you. I am 6'6" and 205 lbs. The arms are always long enough and the fit looks tailored.
The Gamma MX runs just slightly smaller due to it's athletic cut but fits perfect. I got the "Nightshade" and it is actually much darker than it looks in photos. This was an added plus.
The only problem with this brand is that when you get a piece you want to wear it everywhere you go.

Very easy and fun to use. Needed something for thick static rope single strand rappelling and this works great. The cons are the same that you get with figure 8's.....kinks rope some, gets hot when rappelling fast, and leaves black residue on gloves and rope.
