Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am pretty surprised whenever I begin to talk about these skins because no one has the same opinion as me. I have used these skins for two season and I have had no issues. I love how I don't have to worry about not sticking the skins together. I think it's very convenient that I can take my skins off and put them together (glue-side) and pull them apart again.

However, after reading the other review on this site I am not surprised because everyone else I have talked to about these skins seem to have the same negative opinion. But honestly, I have had no issues. Full disclosure I do not go for long all-day tours. My tours are usually for a pow lap or max 3 hours.

Therefore, if you are looking for a low-maintenance or starter skins for your Volkl BMTs, these are the ones!

This ski works great when you want to tour for powder. I knew the ski would work great touring because of it's lightweight, but once I clicked into an epic powder run I had a smile all the way across my face. The ski can hold an edge and you feel in control the whole time you are skiing.

However, I would not use this ski on an icy and choppy snow day.

It's hard to a find a ski that works the best on a powder day, you can ski on the worst possible snow and is playful enough to do spins and butters with. However, Volkl figured it out with this ski. I ski a 173 cm and I am 5'9. I use to ski the 183 in an earlier version of the Shiro, but I realized the 173 is perfect for me. I can ski fast and I still whip the skis around with flips and spins as much as I want.

If you were going to buy one pair of skis and ski 10+ days a year in fresh snow. This is the ski for you.

I have a major problem with my feet getting really cold because of skiing in cold temperatures for so some many years. Therefore, I need to wear a wool sock for my everyday use as well. After using these socks for a couple of weeks my feet are comfortable and no longer feel like icicles when I take them off.

Comfortable & Functional
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Dalbello Sherpa 2/8 were my first touring boot ever and before that I would always use my alpine boots and expect the same results. Not the case. Having a touring specific boot changed my whole perspective on the sport of ski-touring. After a couple of trips in the backcountry I started wearing these boots in the resort as well because they were so comfortable and functional. I couldn't believe I was able to cut and get as much air in these boots as my regular alpine boots. If you are looking for a boot that does it all, I would pick this. I sometimes wish I never had to use regular alpine boots again so I could just stay in these.

Warm Bottom and Slim Fit

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

Oakley got it right when they created the fit for this pant. It's snug in all the right places and gives you room where you need it. The material is basically 100% water-proof with Gore-Tex and vents to cool you off. This pant goes great with it's jacket counter-part.

I Won't Take It Off

Fit: True to size

This jacket keeps blowing me away. I put it on for a day of touring and I think I will get too hot, but the vents work fine and I stay comfortable all the way up, close the vents and warm up for my descent. It's basically 100% water-proof with Gore-Tex and the Bio-Zone keeps you warm all day. If you are looking for a jacket you can rely on, this is it.

Best All-Around Ski
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I still can't believe how much I love this ski. If I had to pick one all-around (touring, powder, airs/cliffs) ski I would pick this one. It's so thin you wouldn't think it would work or hold an edge, but it does and it floats on powder. Because of this ski I have finally enjoyed touring as well. Before my skis were too heavy and I didn't enjoy it. With the V-werks it's as simple as it gets.

His & Her's Backpacks
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I received the BCA Float 22 from my husband a couple years ago because he wanted to make sure I had the best gear to keep me safe in the mountains. I have always skied with a backpack so I was a little worried the weight of the Airbag Feature was going to put me over the edge and not want to anymore. However, that was not the case. Instead I ski with a backpack even more and I am still able to carry all my water and snacks. The next Christmas I bought my husband the same pack and he loves it.

For the longest time I had no idea what this little black cover was for, but when I realized it was the lens cover I never stopped using it. I love carrying a GoPro around with no casing, but a lens cover. It makes it easy to throw in your pocket or backpack and not have to worry about scratching the lens and then pulling it out when you want to take a shot. The camera becomes super small when you do this too.

Surfs Up!

I put this mount on my wake-surf board a couple minutes before I went riding and it never fell off. The GoPro Surf Mount is really strong and the adhesive will not give away.
