i did not buy this through backcountry, but i've written some reviews today and thinking of my favorite gear, this one is up there. day hikes, fieldwork, long mtb rides this pack excels. pedaling up long climbs, i stick my helmet on the handy helmet mount and it doesn't move.
my other day packs are really neglected. opsrey packs are not only designed with alot of thought, they feel great. i own the Exos and Aether, both excellent and comfortable. like the aether, this pack comfortably holds weight when you've over packed. i would go with one size down for my uses. i need to stop buying packs.

i love patagonia, business model, environmental action, photos, etc. so it is hard for me to be unbiased. the Icebreaker gear i have is just so damn good. this is my favorite piece of gear from them. the 260 longjohns are awesome too! a buddy of mine has a pro deal with smartwool and although i prefer their socks, icebreaker makes far superior products.

good luck finding something better than this for midweight. i always wear this snowboarding, often take it with me on high elevation mtn bike rides. i never take a field trip (northern NM) without it.

i've used this for big trips, and it has really held up. it is pretty darn comfortable on your back if you have to walk a couple of miles with alotta shit. the shoulder straps are more comfortable than the Huey, but i like how the Huey straps come off the duffel. you can pull these off too, but you have the plastic pieces still on there, they can break.

i have the Medium, and also a NF Base Camp in a Larger. i've taken this to AK and on many trips around the west. i use this for fieldwork travel mostly. although i'm a climber, i've not used it as a haulbag. this is truly one of those pieces of gear you'll have the rest of your life. i dare the luggage monkeys to destroy this one. i'm always shocked at how much gear i can get in here in addition to snowboard helmet.

this fleece fits me perfect and keeps me warmer than i imagined it would. i'm a really big fan of wool, and now rarely use synthetic fleece. so far i've only taken this out once, that was a trip to the Gila. in camp it was a great base under my down jacket, and i slept in it.
because i like to travel light, i will say that the zippers have these big metal tabs that i could do without. also, this is a left zipper. i'm used to having the zipper on the right.
-to summarize: i love the performance and fit, the color was much darker than what you sse here (navy-almost black) and the zipper issues.

I've some friends who don't like icebreaker, rather smartwool. I don't get it. I love all the icebreaker products I own, several pr socks, tops of all weights, longjohns, and this. This polo is particulary cool, especially if you love wool anyway. People always are psyched to feel the fabric. Sure it looks cool, but we know why it is cool; breathes great and keeps you warm.
If you snowboard, definitely check out the mens bodyfit 260 bottoms. For me the best regulating base-layer.

I can't see any room for improvement with this top. it's warm and breathable. I like to wear it with a softshell doing field work in the mountains. If you stick a lighter wool layer underneath, it's great for use without a shell. I've also used the Icebreaker 260 mens bottoms under goretex pants skiing and snowboarding, perfect performance.
