This fits me spot on. Excellent warmth and packability. The best part is the hood. Even without the hood on when you zip up all the way it creates an extra barrier up to your face and more warmth stays in around your neck. If you are considering this or the non-hooded...Go Hood!
My wife really digs this jacket. Very cool style. Length is just enough to give extra warmth bot not be bulky. Perfect for SoCal cool fall mornings. Or layer it for brisker temps.
I am totally impressed with how warm it is. Especially considering how thin and light. With just a long sleeve shirt I was good down to 50 degrees & 10-15mph wind. Without the wind I wa good at 45 with just a brisk walk. If I could do anything different I'd get the zip up jacket instead. I missed having hand pockets to keep my hands out of the elements. But honestly I really love this thing. A great down alternative for sure.
I bought the L after having tried on an XL Down Sweater Jacket. The jacket in XL was way to roomy for me. The vest in Large ends up being a snug but usable fit in all but the length. Its simply to short. Seems there is a gap in between the XL and L. I have had similar problems with North Face sizing.
My wife is very happy about the gift. She is 5'9 135lbs and the medium is perfect. The coat does have longer arms which is why she loves it. Her long limbs stay covered and dry. The length to is good for her size. Fits longer to keep the bum warm.
So far I very happy with the shell. I'm 6'1 215 lbs and the fit is good. XL was way too big. With the large a fleece layer fits well. Pockets are in all the right places. Powder skirts fits nice and snug. Only in trip on it so far. I can't give five stars as I have had a chance to get more testing in.
Just used this for camping in the Sierras. Temps down in the 40's and I had to shed all my layers as I hot. I have always been a cold sleeper. Used a 25degree Kelty synthetic prior and this is way, way warmer. I bought the long version which is prefect for my 6'1" height. Much prefer this over my prev mummy bag for both warmth and space.
