FYI: I'm a beginner. However, when I first went to buy chalk I purchased a chalk bag right off the bat. Everybody had one, etc. Then, almost as an afterthought, I got the refillable chalk-sock too. I now don't even think about the bag; the sock is where it's at. I can use it to powder up nice and good in the beginning, and while I'm climbing it only takes a second to grab it and keep climbing. I don't have to search for the bag opening, dig my hand in, etc.; just fondle it (it's the only word to describe my technique fully) and keep rolling. I suggest hanging the sock off your harness and forgetting about the bag entirely- that's how I roll.

I want to thank the other reviewers, because they helped me make this purchase. I'm a beginner and wanted to get an inexpensive shoe to start out and it's fullfilled all my needs. I listened to some of the advice below and am glad I did. I wear a 9.5 in a streetshoe and picked up the size 9 in this and although my few are scrunched in tight enough that I usually take them off between climbs, WHILE I'm climbing they perform pretty well. Plus, I've only had them a few weeks but they've already started to stretch to fit my feet like little sticky-rubber gloves. I'm only doing gym climbing because it's still cold and I'm intimidated by trying to organize an outdoor climb in Korea (where I'm stationed-Army), but for that it's great so far. I now understand what "sticky rubber" is when I'm trying to cling to some of the inverted climbing walls here, the shoes grip pretty well and the point is great on the teeniest little pebble-sized holds. They don't dye my feet nearly as bad as I thought they would (though I haven't sweated in them as much as I will in the summer) and the split tongue is no big deal.
