Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have taken several day hikes of varying lengths in this shoe now, and I have to say it is a great shoe. It feels light on the foot, but provides good support and enough motion control to stabilize my tendency to overpronate. The standard Merrell insoles included are fine for general hiking. I usually put Superfeet Green in my other Merrell mid-height boots for serious backpacking. I have tried the Superfeet Green in these shoes and they fit fine without making the shoe too tight. There is a slight tendency for the tongue gussets to roll and create a pressure point after several hours, but this can be avoided by spreading out the tongue gussets as you are tying the shoe. The sole is light but relatively firm, and gives great traction on every surface I have encountered including rock, dirt, light mud, and loose scree/gravel. The shoe breathes well. If you are looking for a lightweight non-waterproof, supportive hiking shoes, I highly recommend the Moab Ventilator.
