Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 135 lbs
Size Purchased: medium

I ski in the NE where it's often in the minus temps plus wind chill. The description and gearheads all make it seem like a warm jacket, but when I wore it outside on a 50 degree day with one base layer, it didn't seem like that warm of a jacket. I need something to keep me warm on the lift when it's -18 and I just don't believe there's any way this jacket will do that, and I don't want to try it out and be wrong. I don't want to have to wear a down layer under my jacket-- I want the jacket to do that.
But, if you live out West where it is not that cold, I think this would be a fine jacket. The zippers are stiff, especially the pit zips, which felt kind of uncomfortable, but presumably the jacket would relax after a few wearings. For me, it's really the fact that it just doesn't seem that warm. For sizing, I'm 5'8 and 135 and ordered a medium. It fit, but it wouldn't if I was going to put a down layer under. For layering I'd probably try a large-- but I'm returning it and getting the patagonia primo down instead.

I ordered this by accident-- I thought I was ordering the Brigandine 2L insulated and instead this one came. I tried it on and wore it outside until I figured out the reason I was freezing was that it was not in fact the insulated jacket. (A problem with naming two jackets almost the exact same thing). But I did think it was a nice shell jacket and it seemed durable and well made. But the zippers seemed very stiff and hard to manage, and it smelled terrible-- like rubber. I'm sure the smell would wear off eventually, but the zippers might be a pain. I'm 5'8 and 140 lbs and the medium fit fine with a base layer underneath. Not sure if it would feel squashed with a down layer underneath, though. Also, I thought the elastic thumbholes loops (just a piece of elastic you can loop your thumb through) might be annoying or uncomfortable.

These are nice pants. They aren't itchy at all, and they're fairly warm. I'm pretty much always cold, and I run and ski all winter long. I wear these from about 30-45 degrees (ie late fall and early spring), maybe even a bit warmer, and they're great for that. I'm waiting for Smartwool to make women's pants for real winter days.

I love these tights, but they are itchy. I almost sent them back, but finally decided to wear them with silk long johns inside and that took care of the problem in terms of wearing them around when I'm not actively exercising. I have worn them just by themselves for winter train runs, under a pair of soft shell pants, and as long as I don't think too much about them, I'm fine, but as soon as I sit down and start relaxing, I start scratching. I wanted thick black winter leggings that I could wear around town all winter, stay warm, be comfortable, but not look totally sloppy, and these are that. They look great, I get lots of compliments on them, and I stay warm. They are very well made, but in general, I think I'm going to use other base layers against my skin (fleece or smartwool, which I also have, and are less warm, but not itchy).
