Familiarity: I've used it several times

We purchased the shadow mountain at the beginning of the summer. I really like the design. It provides enough shade to sit comfortably with a cooler and a couple of chairs. It is also tall enough to put a small table and cook standing up while the stove is being protected from the wind.
However, the manufacture and quality of the product is not what I expected. On our first outing, one of the sand bags that prevent the tent from moving ripped off so that it was no longer attached to the tent. The same happened to two other sand bags on subsequent outings. The corners where the polyethelene meets the longest pole and the canopy tore out on both sides of the tent approximately 4 inches on each side. And finally, the elastic inside the fiberglass pole snapped (in many tents this elastic can be replaced but in this case, the end caps have been crimped and the elastic does not seem to be replaceable )
I usually take very good care of my gear and I expected this to last much longer than 5 outings. I have had tent from a different manufacturer for 9 years and it is still in great shape.

I would not recommend this to a friend.

As long as you are willing to pay for the weight penalty it is probably a good shoe. The shoe is built in a very similar configuration as the Salewa boots which is very heavy and durable. The sole is very stiff as it was a crampon compatible shoe even though it is not. If this was a boot that provided a good amount of support I would probably go for it. However since it is just a shoe and I will probably have to carry it up the wall on alpine climbs for the decent I don’t think it is a good fit. I am returning the shoe and going for the Zen’s which are about ½ of the weight and are known to be very durable.

It is very light approach shoes that still perform very well. I was looking for a comparable shoe but is been difficult to find a shoe that is as light a durable. I wore this shoe every day for 2 years and I was completely happy with them (after 2 years the leather on the side ripped). Since I could not find another shoe that was comparable to it I decided to buy another pair.
