Okay I have had a Rab Peak Down smock for the past 13years and it has been a wonderful servant. It has been equally great on the highstreet and on the rock face belaying but after much selecting I decided on the Marmot Guide Down Sweater.
The look is fantastic but it just isn't as warm as I had expected. The loft is inferior to my Rab jacket even though it has pretty much the same specs. I put this down to the construction of the jacket. The jacket doesn't have the stitch through baffle construction of the Rab which prevents cold spots in windy conditions. The jacket rides up when you raise your arms despite it's reputed angel wing construction and it feels a little short in the body.
In it's defense if I had never had the Rab I would have thought it was pretty good. The wicking fabric at the collar and zip protector is very snug and it is well made but unfortunately it feels like I have taken a step back with this jacket.
