After good experiences with The North Face Vapor Light and Ultra 102 this shoe did not cut it. Mesh at the corner of the toe box developed a hole in about 100 miles. In less than 200 I lost a tread/lug off the sole on both shoes down the center of the forefoot. Not even the same tread/lug location on each shoe. The Radial is not the high-end shoe, but I notice the more expensive shoes have the same outsole. Fit and performance were otherwise OK. Too bad.
This shoe seems lighter and more nimble than advertised or reviewed. Make no mistake, it is a true trail runner, but it has none of the bootish clunk I expected. Very protective and confidence inspiring on rocky terrain, but still feels like a running shoe on dirt/fire roads.
This is a nice road shoe with agro tread. Good cushion, light and a nice running "feel". But, there is no protection built into this shoe for getting off-road. The fit is a bit snug for my taste in the uppers, which sounds typical of Salomon. The overlays blister my arch when laced tight. Montrail Vitesse is a 5 star trail runner.
