My husband has this helmet. It doesn't have any more ventilation/holes than any other bike helmet. If you're wearing a road cycling style helmet, there are vent holes in the top and you're going to get wet if it rains. He says it's very comfortable and lightweight, although the fit is a little different than typical Bell/Giro helmets so you should measure your head to find the size rather than just buying your regular size. Or maybe try it on in a shop before ordering.
P.S. The look is not new. The Tour de France riders have been wearing this style for about three years, though it hasn't been available from North American retailers until a little more recently.
I beg to differ. They are much slimmer in the buttox region than Pearl Izumi. These are not for women with curves in the hip/bottox region. They also sit slightly lower than your natural waist, so I found ordering based on my hip size worked.
This is my first piece of clothing from Giordana. I was drawn to it because I'd heard of the quality of cycling clothing from European companies.
Someone previously commented that they fit a lot like a pair of Pearl Izumi shorts do. I beg to differ. I found that Giordana seems to run slimmer in the buttox region. I personally was pleased with this, as I feel like most Pearl Izumi shorts are designed for women with more "junk in the trunk" than I have. The shorts sit slightly lower than your natural waist. This was a good thing for me, because based on the size chart my hips measurment indicated a small, but my waist size indicated a medium. I ordered the small and they fit perfectly.
The chamois was comfortable and didn't have any seams that rubbed on long rides (a problem I've had from lower-quality products), although I found it didn't seem to wick the sweat away from me and was soaked at the end of a long ride. Additionally, the panels of the shorts seemed supportive. The elastic at the bottom also seemed flattering in that it didn't dig into my legs like many lower-quality cycling shorts do, making even fit/toned/slender legs look like they are fat (I'm sure most women know what I mean).
Bottom line: a great short for women who aren't curvy in the hip/buttox region.
