This was my second set of R1 pants. They are a bit expensive, but very good. Don't be fooled into thinking they are just (a) thick long-johns, or (b) thin sweat pants, although they could be used for both. They are a beastie all their own, and I have found no better mid-weight hiking pant. At first I thought they were too short, but then realized they were designed that way: the perfect length for wearing with hiking or skiing boots. A more usable pocket would be nice, but as it is you can stash your ID and some dollars, and that's good enough, really. They are just as comfy around the house on a chilly evening as they are wicking sweat away on a vigorous hike. All in all, a keeper.
