These are above all else, a solution for chafage on long hikes. And they perform that function flawlessly. Aside from that, they are comfy, stretchy, good-looking, and just the best pair of underwear I've ever owned. I own four of these, and would wear them every day if I could afford to buy a dozen more or so!
So light, stretchy, and comfortable. But durable at the same time. As a backpacker, you couldn't ask for more. They weigh NOTHING in your pack, the welded seams ensure long life, and they dry so quickly it's unbelievable. Another solid garment from Stoic. I love this company.
Since I started using these liners, I stopped getting blisters on my hikes when used properly underneath a heavy wool hiking sock. For this reason alone, they get 5 stars.
As a bonus, since I got the black ones, I wear them often as professional work socks. They look great and are more comfy, cozy, and warm then traditional work socks.
Other reviews on here hit the nail on the head. These pants are stretchy (but don't look like it), ridiculously comfortable, weather-resistant, WATER resistant (I slid on my butt down a snowy slope on Mt. St. Helen's and had a surprisingly dry ass afterwards!), look great, and feel great. These are my favorite pants, bar none. I couldn't recommend these highly enough.
ONE word of warning: these run LONG. Usually with pants, I need a 32" inseam. In the case of these pants, I was stepping on them. I exchanged for 30" and they're perfect.
I love functional clothing. So when I was looking around for a classy coat that wouldn't make me look out of place at the office, I knew I wanted something that was also USEFUL against the weather. This Jacket fit the bill, on paper.
-Merino wool makes me happy inside.
-Liner ISN'T merino wool, and thus goes on and off smoothly.
-Overall quite warm.... if it isn't windy
-Description claims this jacket is highly wind-resistant. In reality, it blocks about as much wind as the seat of my pants after a hearty Mexican dinner.
-Fit is SNUG. I had to return XL for XXL, although I wear XL in virtually every other brand on the planet (6'1" 230 lbs).
-Holy heck it's expensive.
-Terrible at resisting wind (did I mention this yet?)
So overall, it's a fantastic, classy-looking jacket that doesn't quite live up to its claims, but I kept it anyway for work because I keep getting complimented on looking sharp in it.
Thanks for the pic Zoltan. Since posting this, I have actually seen the jacket and tried it on, and I can confirm it looks nothing like other Stoic pieces with "forest" color. A backcountry representative actually told me the color of THIS jacket is supposed to read "dark forest." Appreciate your pic, anyway!
Could somebody from Backcountry please post some pics of the forest and midnight colors for me to see? I can tell that the pics above are misleading... particularly in the darkness of the green. I own other Stoic pieces in "forest", and they are WAY lighter than that picture is showing.
Shirt fit is very athletic, as described, and the material wicks moisture and repels your stench. That said, I wouldn't buy this shirt at full price. Ridiculous. On SAC, though, get a bunch of these whenever you see them. Absolutely worth it.
Ultralight, durable, stretchy shorts don't get better than this. From the second I put them on when they arrived, I knew I bought a winner. They're impossibly lightweight, fit me perfectly, and somehow look good at the same time. The ONLY downside is that the material is clearly not very breathable (which is likely the reason these don't have a long-pant variant), but they're shorts so it doesn't matter anyway.
The key benefit of this valve is not in the convenience it provides (although that's nice too), but in the fact that it pushes AIR into your pad, and not your BREATH. Before using this valve, I had gotten used to the fact that my neoair would lose its firmness in the middle of the night. First time I used this valve in the backcountry, that didn't happen. I don't know the scientific explanation for it, but it works. And it weighs nothing. On the downside, I've already destroyed the included plastic bag, but that's easily replaceable so it doesn't matter.
I'm glad I got a replacement before they decide to stop making these. Sweetwater system has been an integral part of my pack for years, and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon. Not sure why theses filters have to be so dang pricey (i.e. HALF the price of the whole thing), but I suppose it's a priceless piece of gear in the end.
I spent way too long looking for the perfect headlamp (as I do with most gear choosing), but I came up with this one because I really wanted the ability to easily switch between short-range and long-range modes. The remix works perfect, is very lightweight, comfortable and has fantastic battery life. One thing I especially like about this lamp is the fact that to change between short- and long- range you actually hold the button down, instead of pressing it a certain number of times (that function is for brightness instead). Also, the button is nice, big, and responsive. I even like the different kind of style employed with this lamp. Overall, I can't think of anything negative to say, so five stars all the way. You won't be disappointed.
Actually, their jackets are outsourced to Canada, but nothing of theirs is made in China. BC had it wrong, but now it is fixed :D
you guys have the weight listed incorrectly for this bag. It looks like you have the FILL WEIGHT listed as TOTAL WEIGHT.
I agree with Kurt. With a 4" loft bag like this, you don't have to worry much about down shifting (unless you sleep vertically like Batman). Go with the continuous baffle, the sewn through option creates cold spots where the bag is sewn, and is really only necessary when a bag has VERY little down in it (like the WM highlite). This bag has the perfect amount of down for its temp rating and I've never had any problems with down being in the wrong spot.
when the poles are all folded up together (for packing), how long are they?
It's a giant dry bag to cover EVERYTHING in your non-waterproof pack. Works perfect, like all S2S products. Not much else to say; if you don't wanna spend like $500 on a completely waterproof pack that squeaks at you with every movement than get a regular pack and buy one of these for the same effect.
I will have to admit I was surprised by how small it was when it arrived. I mean, I was expecting (and wanting) it to be small, but wow. This is truly a SINGLE serving pot. That being said, I can't imagine a lighter, tougher pot than this for ultralight backpacking. Use it with the MSR pocket rocket for a perfect combo. The gas canister for the Pocket Rocket fits right inside the Titan along with any very small dishes. I use S2S X-Mug, which fits PERFECTLY inside the Titan, with gas canister on top and pack a tiny towel inside so it doesn't rattle around. Great system.
Only con is the outrageous price, but if you wanna go light, you're gonna spend some bucks.
