Using the The RateSkiGear.Com 100 Point Rating Systemâ„¢, this Patagonia Down Sweater scores 91 out of 100 Possible Points.

Why?

It's the perfect layering piece for those brutally cold days. Actually, you can reduce the numbers of layers due to high loft to weight ratio. The high fill-power of the down makes this unit highly compressable, but it has the loft to keep me from freezing to the bone.

Alone, this is a great "kick-around" piece on the street or in camp.

Dislikes: No hand warmer pockets, however, if your are wearing this under a shell it makes no differance. Very fragile fabric. Tears easily. Remember however, that the fabrics fragility is directly related to its weight, so carry some rip-tape and live with it!

Backcountry.Com's price is very good. I've looked around and most retailers no longer have this piece in stock. BUY IT!

I scored this boot 81 out of 100 possible points using the RateSkiGear.Com 100 Point Rating Systemâ„¢. Here's why:

One of the best skiing shoes I ever experienced. Perfect flex, easy adjustment with only three buckles and outstanding performance. If the width fits, WEAR IT! This boot design incorporates everything that was ever GREAT in boots of the past, like the Raichle Flexon Comp and the San Marco AXR. Complete heel hold-down/retention. NO SLIPPAGE! Awesome.

Dislkes:

"Would you buy this product (again)?" No. Why? For me, the last is way too narrow and the Dalbello line offers a wider four buckle shoe that forgives a 50 Year Old "Wanna-Be" like myself.

That said, this is a great price for a boot with a heat moldable liner. Just make sure it's not too narrow a last for your foot.

On the RateSkiGear.Com 100 Point Rating System™, I scored these boards 97 out of 100.

Here's why:

I don't like "fat" skis, yet I liked this ski. It was tested on groomed runs only with patches of firm snow and the edge hold was amazing. Easy to turn, very damp, like all good Austrian skis. The design innovation is very unique and will definately draw attention. In addition, logic tells me that the "boat" tip will get you up on the snow.

As far as the current model year (08/09), buy them! For all the reasons above, plus the fact that this price is really good, why wait till next season?
