comfortable right out the box. They fit much like the pair of Zen's I have and that is a good thing. The sole on the fore foot is supper tacky and sticks to granite great. I have been looking for a reasonable light weight shoe that offered just a bit more protection then trail runner or low approach shoes for long days in the scree fields and off trail backpacking trips. These work great for me in all of these respects.

Perfect. They never smell (can't say the same for synthetics with me) no matter how sweat soaked they are after a run/hike and they keep my feet dryer than any other sock. I like the PHD line as they are more form fitting and keep there shape longer. This is great when backpacking and you need to just rinse and rewear socks for days on end. In the end I always blister less with these socks on long days pounding my feet on the trail. Oh and they last for ever. I have a hard time telling my three year old smartwool socks from pairs wore just a few times. Still yet to get a hole in any of these socks.

I bought this to be my go to hard shell and I'm not disappointed. Very light weight, great fit, ample venting, and pack ability. With the hood was not so big but I was designed for helmet use, and you can get it tight enough on the head to not be a bother to much when not wearing one. overall if you don't need hand pockets and you like simple effective designs then this coat may be for you.
