I have full sized Gore-tex OR gaiters (knee height) which are great for snow shoeing (my shoes tend to flip the snow up the back of my leg) and wanted something for less challenging uses, such as hiking on muddy or hard-packed trails. These are perfect for this use- they are high-ankle/low calf height, the gaiter material has a nice stretch to it, there are extra velcro tabs at the top and bottom that really lock it on your leg tightly, the strap under the heel is very durable and adjustable, and they are a breeze to put on and take off. The L/XL is sized quite reasonably for my various boots (size 10 US lows and 44.5 Euro highs) - probably mid-range for the L/XL size. They are not Gore-tex but do a nice job keeping mud, debris and light water off your shoes and pant cuffs. Great product, reasonably priced, but unfortunately, made in China.
Ordered a medium based on the sizing charts and could barely get it on my head. Returned it for an L, which is much better. This is a good piece for cold weather, but if it gets really frigid/windy, I found it necessary to wear a light ear band underneath it, and the combo was perfect. Visor is helpful as is Gore-tex outside fabric.
Are these Kahtoola Microspikes sized large enough to fit over hiking boots/trail shoes and do they run true? I am right on the border between M and L, with a size 10 (Euro 44-44.5) in outdoor shoes.
