Sam's Bio

20 years old, born and raised skiing Alta, UT. My folks put me on skis at age 2 and said "send it." From there on out skiing has been a main focus of mine. Rock climbing became a focus of mine around 15 and the two sports combine = true happiness for me.

The Airbrake is a great goggle for anyday. The lens changing system is futuristic and works really well. Compared to the Smith I/O changing out the lens is as easy or easier. Clean design and well functioning. I would say this goggle is one of the best on the market hands down.

The Oakley Canopy could be the perfect goggle. The lenses are awesome and I love how big the frame is. You can see EVERYTHING!! After wearing these goggles I don't know if i'll be able to wear another frame.

Fit: True to size

I've gone through many jackets, from First Ascent to Dakine's new outerwear. The Oakley Beltline series is the real deal. 3 layer Gore-tex making it pretty much bomb proof, yet still has the classic Oakley style everyone loves. If you need a jacket that's quality and looks good, this is for you.

Faction has done exactly what every company has been attempting to do the past few years. They have made a light weight, solid, big mountain touring ski. The 4.0 crushes every aspect if skiing whether it's jumping, pow skiing, or charging lines, this ski does it all. The Faction 4.0 is the future of backcountry big mountain skiing.

The concourse double allows you to pack a few pairs of skis, poles and whatever else you want to try and fit into this monster of a ski bag. If you aren't worried about heavy luggage then this bag is the way to go. It rolls your weight right along with you. When going on big trips I love stuffing my clothes in with my skis so you can have all your weight distributed well throughout your bags. Remember, you don't want to exceed 50 pounds or they'll charge ya!

Dakine has done it again with the Cobra Glove. This glove is great for most temps and the leather is super water resistant. The gortex also helps keep your hands dry. Rub a little bit of sno-seal on these babies and they will last you for a long while.

All the companies these days are trying to make the perfect ski. Faction has already done so. The 3.zero is stiff, poppy, and rockered. With traditional sidecut you can lay down an edge from tip to tail and all of the camber under foot makes it great for setting up the next turn. The rockered tip allows you to float when needed but the traditional sidecut allows you to start on edge and finish with a little kick. This ski has outdone the rest of it's kind. The new Candide 3.0 will be even lighter than this ski but will have the same great shape for charging and skiing pow. They nailed it on this one.

Jason Prigge designed the MFD all-time for freeskiers who need a bomber set up while skiing lines in the backcountry. Last winter I was able to take the plate up to Alaska and tour around Turnagain pass skiing some of the biggest baddest lines around after hiking 4 or so miles on the MFD. Not only does the plate have a super steep position for hiking but it's all pole activated and having the comfort of such a bomber plate is nice when you are scared for your life. I've skied this thing in hardpack, big lines, chutes and jumping in the BC. No other devise will make you feel as comfortable than the MFD. This plate kills it. The weight is worth the ride.

I had been using a Dakine Helipro for 5 years and it never seemed to fall apart. The only reason I'm not using it anymore is because I got a new one! These backpacks are built to last and the style is just a +. Dakine is a roots brand and has stuck with the roots. The backpacks show how the company stays true. The outerwear is the same way. Quality

I usually climb Sportivas and now I know why. I love the verde and it climbs super well but doesn't last too long. It's probably been about 2 months and the shoe is starting to fall apart. Great shoe but wouldn't recommend it. The Muira would be a better choice i think.

Pow Skiin'
5 5

Skiing in deep pow is the best but this ski has made it better. Super playful and landing are easy with a fat board under each foot. The tail being smaller than the rest of the ski makes it a lot easier to land switch in the pow. I would say for newschool pow skiing this is the ski you want to be on.

The Scarpa Vapor is a great shoe for overhangs with little toes. I went from a normal shoe to this performance shoe and it improved my climbing by teaching me to use and learn better footwork along with patience climbing up the wall. I mostly boulder so I try to not wear out my shoes fast but this shoe is excellent for bouldering. I wouldn't use them in the gym just because they are quite expensive but if you have money then these shoes are a great shoe for anything.
