Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

A map and compass is the single most important tool to take with you in the wilderness (along with the knowledge on how to use them.) This Suunto is perfect for anything and everything you need to find your way out in the sticks. Just don't forget to set the declination for you location for true north. This compass is accurate, well built and sturdy with all the bells and whistles. A great compass.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've found these to work great with the MSR Denali Evo snowshoe when you need a little extra surface area on the snow. They clip on and off easily enough and give you that added area to keep you atop the snow when you're carrying extra gear or whatever.
