Old Army Guy's Bio

After spending 23 years in the Army roughing it in the woods with 70-100 pounds strapped to my back, I thought I'd never go back into the woods. Turned out, going back is exactly what I needed to prepare for civilian life...went on a short 10 day solo hike on the AT. Covered a couple hundred miles..and realized..LIFE IS GOOD! Now, whenever the opportunity presents itself, I'm on a trail somewhere. I'm a teacher so I get a nice spring break and a long summer to enjoy life to it's fullest.

Very happy with this unit so far. Taken it out on a few shorter hikes. It's light, compact and it works great for me. I use it primarily for boiling water. Not a big fan of cleaning up dirty pots in the field. The spork kinda sucks. I used it once..then went with my old spork. I've heard people talking about having difficulty opening the set..read the directions you chowderheads. It's not rocket science. :)

This is only the second Therm-a-Rest I've owned since 1995. The first one lasted forever..even after it wouldn't hold air I used it because, well it was like an old friend. I held a funeral for an old friend and replaced her with a newer model. NO regrets! Half the weight, additional comfort (this one hold air) and it's not a subdued color. Since I only recently got my hands on this I don't think I can give it any real justice, but I am confident that I will be comfortable on my two week backpacking trip on the AT. If I have something differnt to report, I will. I'm really not expecting anything but bliss.
