I have scoured the internet trying to find good sleeping bag options for our two boys (ages 4 and 1) for backpacking. Marmot lives up to its quality even in this child's bag. It's warm, lightweight, compressible, and Marmot even catered to kids with the little zipper pocket inside (where my son stores his little sleep bear). This bag isn't too big for our average-sized 4 year old, but it still gives him plenty of room to grow. The red color is bright and fun, and my son loves this bag. The one received had a gray lining, which I was happier with rather than the orange. We will be buying another one for our one year old once he grows a bit. For now we have him in a Kelty Woobie, which is just right for a tiny guy. I'm highly impressed and incredibly grateful to Marmot for recognizing that parents who still want to backpack with young children will need durable, comfortable, and lightweight gear.

This is a fabulous first sleeping bag for babies and toddlers, who would just get lost in a kid-sized sleeping bag. It compresses down for backpacking, which is essential when backpacking with small children to minimize space. Yet, for those little ones, this bag is SO soft with its flannel lining and seems to have extra padding for a cushiony bed. For those wondering about sizing, it is too small by maybe just a few inches for my 42 inch four year old, so I'm thinking it would be good for up to a toddler's third birthday, and maybe into that next year.
