I recently returned the North Star Jacket from Montane for this, the Chillwave and I could not be happier! When I buy a jacket I usually look for 4 things...

1. Warmth
2. Construction
3. Style/Fit
4. Extras

The Chillwave has exceeded my expectations in every single category. It is by far the warmest jacket I have ever owned. I will be spending time regularly in temperatures that average in the -20's (F) and I could not be more confident. Granted the Absolute Zero has it beat in the warmth category, but the Chillwave is just such a good deal. The Construction of this jacket is simply SUPERB and the fit is excellent. Im 5'11" 188lbs and a large fits me perfectly with ample room to layer appropriately! I love that the hood is removable, and that the pockets on this model are fleece lined.... in my last few jackets they were not and that, to me, makes a big difference.

All in all this is my first buy from Mountain Hardware, and I will be a customer for life. This is a fantastic parka!

I normally wear a size 10 1/2 in a normal shoe...... and so I ordered these in a size 11 to be safe. When I received them, I could hardly fit my foot in there. I ended up returning them twice for larger sizes, and finally ended up with a size 13. These fit really well, and are extremely warm. I wore them in the Colorado mountains where the temperature was in the low teens and my feet were perfectly comfortable. I didn't even have thick socks on, just normal thin hanes ankle socks. I am very impressed with the quality of these boots and their insulation!! A great buy!

I recently purchased the north star, and I'm returning it for the chillwave. The north star did not impress me when I spent a weekend in the colorado mountains where it was 15F at the worst. I'm heading to eastern russia soon and I really don't think there is anyway it would hold up against the cold that I will be facing, -35F..... Hopefully my new chillwave will prove to be the better choice.

Ummm.... I wrote a glowing review of this jacket awhile ago, but I just got back from a weekend in Colorado and I have to say I am changing my mind. I have had a few feathers come out here and there but other than that the construction is really good, no complaints there. However I did wear this in 20 degree weather with wind chills in the low teens for about 5 hours and I noticed my arms slowly getting cold. Granted, underneath I only had a thin t-shirt but from the reviews I was kind of expecting more. Im going to be spending three months in severe sub-zero weather and I don't think this jacket is going to be enough. Returning it today.

If it wasn't for the zipper, I would have easily given this jacket 5 stars.... but like all of the other reviews before me said, the zipper is awful! I haven't even attempted to unzip it because I don't want to deal with any problems zipping it back up. But the crappy zipper aside, the jacket is really warm. I wore it today in 30 F weather with a heavy wind and after a while I started sweating. Im going to Russia in 2 weeks, and the temp there will be averaging in the -30's F, so I will let you know how it stands up to that when I get there. Overall though, I am extremely satisfied with this jacket!!!
