Mike's Bio

I've been a working for Backcountry.com since July of 2011 as a Gearhead and now in Accounts Receivable.

I spend most of my time in the winter snowboarding at resorts and do some back country riding and hiking.

I spend the majority of my time trying to outsmart fish with a fly rod and spend a good deal of time backpacking in the western US.

To add to Geoff's great answer, I have had the jacket for a year and down leakage is VERY minimal. This and the Cerium both minimize feathers getting out ? with that said, expect some feathers to come out with any down product. The barbs seem to find their way between the threads and will come out, but comparably this jacket has much less than others I've used.

Good: I love the wide blades and the wide hinge point making these not twist when compressed. The replaceable blades are a great idea, since nippers do go dull after a while. Love the eye cleaner location in the front.
Bad: One of the blades was completely flat, while the other was sharp. I tested it on some 2x tippet I had lying around and I had to push hard to cut it. The spring is weak and feels flimsy compared to other nippers I've used. Needless to say, not every pair is going to be like this. I've read reviews on Simms and other places to find out if this was how they were supposed to be and found that some people had no issues, and some did. I'd recommend them if the blades lined up and were sharp. You can still buy them and Simms will fix them for free if you send them to Bozeman which is what I'm going to do and I'm sure they'll come back as they were intended to perform.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size

I was in a rush and bought these and didn't notice they are a 21" outseam. They go just below the knee, and they don't skimp on the amount of fabric. A little loose for my personal taste, but the fabric is really nice feeling and definitely breathable. The 31" waist was spot on as well. They look like nice golf shorts when they are on, and would probably fit in well for you guys that want to wear some shorts on the green. 5 stars because personal preference is the only reason I didn't love them.

It really does. Always trying to give you cancer and give you mean old sunburns... The nice golden tan is a trick.

With that said, These are good fitting gloves for anyone who cares about their skin on their hands. These also help if you are going to do any tropical/ocean fishing since fish tend to take your fly and run like a bat out of hell. They'll keep your hands from getting beat up by the line and reel spinning out of control.

Fit: I have smaller hands and I chose the S/M so I could get a tighter fit. They fit perfect.

I've bought several pairs of waders and tried many of them out just to find the right fit and the right ones for the type of fishing that I do. With that said, these are the gold standard for their price point. They are ridiculously durable and they are the best fitting waders I have found. There are certainly more expensive waders by Simms but for the price you know you're getting high quality and not getting ripped off. If you're looking for a wader to invest in instead of replacing every other year then these are the ticket that will last for a good long time. Plus they have done a great job at minimizing bulk and keeping it simple in design. Killer quality, lifetime warranty, great fit.

This has an awesome selection of flies. Here in Utah I use most of these flies on a regular basis, so this is not just a California selection. If you're looking to get started in fly fishing, or just trying to boost your fly collection then these all do a great job for Utah and California. Most of these flies will help catch fish in the spring/summer/fall.

In an age where we want everything in life to be stimulating, Hydro Flask stepped up to the task with drinking liquids. These are durable and extremely scratch resistant and taking a sip of water becomes an actual experience. I use mine for water mostly, and the water stays ice cold for hours and hours. I don't know where they got their claim of 12/24 hours, but regardless the water stays about the same temp for 6+hours. Haven't messed with hot water as much, but know I can leave it in my car with hot water and come back for lunch and it's still really hot. Definite recommendation

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Fit: Runs large

I wanted to love these waders. My body type is short and skinny. I'm 5'8" and 150lbs. I have a pair of Redington Sonic Pro waders in Medium now and they are a little baggy so I thought going with something higher end, and a size smaller would solve the problem. It was the complete opposite. I bought these in size small and they were humungous! My pant inseam is 30-31 inches and these had to have been 32-34 or somewhere in there. The waist/chest area along with the legs were all for someone twice my girth. BUT the booties on the small fit perfectly... size 8.5/9 shoe and these fit snug as a bug.

Needless to say, if you have a slimmer body type then I would stay away from these. If you have an athletic build and/or bigger frame then definitely go for them... and here is why I would choose them if the fit worked:

Adjustable Suspenders - SO convenient. The adjustability is easy to use, but a little awkward just to put them on. Either way, awesome feature.
Knee Pads! - Yes removable soft foam knee-pads. Awesome feature again for when you have to kneel in the river to get your Grip n' Grin shot, or sneaking up on a spooky hole.

Waterproof Pocket - many waders claim to have water resistant or waterproof pockets for your phone or keys, but this one is legit. After losing one phone to this feature on other waders, i'm happy this one was bombproof.
Booties - insulated booties are nice, plus the anatomically shaped booties for left and right. They were awesome. but don't expect softness and plushness... they are not either.
Materials - bombproof materials and awesome construction. Great construction in the crotch area. weird, but nice feature when you're bending down a lot.

I have bought a couple pairs of these in the past and return them every time for size. I always forget to order a full size down on these. I usually wear a 8.5/9 in all of my vulcanized shoes. On these I had to go with an 8. Definitely a better quality than any van's classics or a lot of other vulcanized shoes i've had in the past though.

I just got the Camo OG's. I love them, but hate them at the same time. The color/camo is super subtle so it's not the typical camo/ex-army style. But the fit is much wider in the legs than the regular K Slim pants. Maybe it was just the pair, but I was bummed they were not a slimmer fit. But I'll keep them because they still look good.

Just bought the Roadkill color and they are pretty cool. I think these may be a bit different than the other colors as this has somewhat of a wax or other coating on them. They feel heavy/stiffer than other colors but It makes them look cooler cause of the texture difference. good skinny fit and stretchy like everyone else has said. i believe the leg length is about 32 on the 32 waist.

Love the jacket, everything I would expect from Arc'Teryx. I found the arm length is a bit long for me. 5'8 150 lbs, bought a medium and definitely would have sized down to a small for overall arm length. a little long is good for cover, but it is now bunching which I hate. Overall, stellar jacket and happy I went with the SL vs AR.

I found that this had some good/bad reviews online. I've used it a little bit and haven't had any issues. Some said that the USB adapter made it really tough to get the card out after you transfer files, but I didn't have a hard time with it at all. Seems to be stellar, performance wise. One thing is that I'm not sure why this says it is made by GoPro, as it is made by Lexar and there are no indications of it being from or by GoPro.

Bought this as a gift and now I'm going to buy my own. The tip is completely transparent, and after seeing it in action the first day I was pleasantly surprised how well it did. This is definitely something I would only use on a lake or on a really slow deep pool as the sink rate may be a bit too fast for the not so deep and fast stuff.

I just got the 3+ black edition and haven't had a chance to play around with it too much. This is sadly my first GoPro that I've owned, so I can't compare to previous editions. The reason I went with a GoPro is the size and versatility of it. I can take it anywhere in virtually any weather or environmental condition and still get great video and photo results. If you want something versatile then this is for you. Save your money on the other ones and just get the black, the features are well worth the extra chunk of change.

In all seriousness, my wife loves this. a few things she has mentioned: awesome support. She loves it for running, but if she wears it to the gym she feels like it's too intense and is uncomfortable, but doesn't feel it is the fit, just the support. She likes the thicker straps, but said something about the Velcro slipping a tiny bit. Overall it's awesome for medium/high support.
