Marit's Bio

I'm an athlete, but I'm not just an athlete. I'm a writer, but I'm not just a writer. I'm a publicist, but only while I'm working. I'm an artist, a cookie baker, a friend, a daughter, an ally, a foe, a nice girl, a bitch, a dreamer, a watcher, a contender, a cook. I'm all these, but I'm a million other things that I don't even know yet. I'm just a silly, fierce girl figuring this out as I go.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are good looking, fit well, and are warm, breathable, and don't smell. My husband wears them to backcountry ski; my brother wears them to work construction in the winter; and my dad wears them under coveralls on winter days on the ranch. They all have several pairs. They all prefer them to any other brand out there.

Getting gloves and mitts on little hands is harder than landing the rover on mars. Not that I know that for sure, but I know that they landed a rover on Mars, and I know that, before these mitts, I couldn't get my girl's hands in anything to keep them warm. The zipper is genius. You can open the mitt up, place a little hand inside, and zip it in to stay. I've read others here say they couldn't get the mitts to stay on but I haven't had that problem. My 2-year-old thinks these are the coolest, and so do I.

This is by no means an all-purpose heavy-duty headlamp. It's a lightweight, no-band, spark to light up the night when you need to see, but not far, and not in dire circumstances. We keep one in the house and one in the camper. I keep one in my running pack in case of emergency if I'm going out long. My husband keeps one in his hunting pack for the same reason.

I'm proud to say that my daughter is the original Sprout. She was too big for the onesie by the time these came out, but we're proud of them, and love sharing her namesake with every single baby we know. It helps that the material is super soft, the design is darling, and everyone we know loves the Goat! They are awesome gifts.

I bought these for my 2-yr-old before the two of us went camping in the desert this fall. We ended up tenting it in a torrential downpour for two days, with temps in the 40s. It was a recipe for disaster, but disaster never struck. With these pants, her down jacket, her Hestra gloves, and her frog hat, she was snug and warm and cheery through it all. She's since worn them to play in the snow. These pants are the perfect puffy buddies for any little one who likes to be out when it's cold.

It's an all-around useful little guy. It's light, sturdy, and trustworthy. I use it for early morning, pre-dawn trail runs. It's all that I need, but is often overpowered by the lights of my friends. I've dropped it several times, and it does pop apart, but it's easy to click back together.

I run in the cold. All levels of cold. I bought these for cold but not frigid mornings. They're very soft to the point of feeling almost delicate. I much prefer the Stoic liners, which are sturdier, warmer, and not bulky. I'm retiring these from the trail and using them for my town gloves.

I bought these for my 2-year-old. She's really tall for her age, and they come up just to her knee. I love them because they're warm and adorable. She loves them because they're dinosaurs and they don't match. They look awesome with her skirts her dresses too. Definitely recommend them for little ones.

I had just returned from a work trip to NYC where I had purchased two pair of amazing jeans for too much money. I was shopping for technical gear on Backcountry and thought I'd blink in at the jeans, just to see what there was. I bought these, thinking there was no way in hell I could buy a pair of jeans online that would actually fit. (I don't know about you, but I don't find jeans shopping very fun at all.) Well, these not only fit, they fit great (true to size, long enough for my long legs - I'm 5'10"). They fit better than the really expensive ones I bought in New York. I love them more and wear them more. And seriously, you cannot beat the price. I'm now a Vans fan.

Twins for a reason

We didn't plan this, it just happened. It's interesting to me that the people who've rated this less than 5 stars are boyfriends and husbands. Women who are considering this shirt should buy it. Please heed the women who wear it, not the boyfriends who don't. It's the best running shirt I've ever worn.

I give this skirt two stars IF you're going to use it for running. The skirt is a bit too short and the liners don't stay put. I seriously feel like my bum is hanging out when I leap over logs or creeks on the trails. I'm 5'10" and 135 lbs. I have a thin athletic build. I am a medium and I bought a medium. This is not the skirt for me. If you like Lole, I much prefer their Sprint Skort: http://www.backcountry.com/lol-sprint-skort-womens. Get this one instead if you're a runner.

One of my faves

I'm running a lot these days and I'm gear testing a lot of running skirts. This is one of the best I've tried. It's cute, yes, but it also fits well. The liner shorts don't ride and are soft and comfortable. The skirt is a bit more skirty than other brands I've tried, but it's not a distraction or a nuisance. I like the color combo, the wide waistband, and the drawstring, which is helpful now because I'm thinner than usual at this point in my training. I'm a small medium and this skirt fits well - even a little loose. I'm 5'10", 135 lbs.

I wanted a great casual sneak without laces that I could slip on and off easily. After tons of searching, I found these. They're all that I wanted, and they're cool looking too. People compliment them every time I wear them. And who doesn't want to be told that they're feet look good? They're comfy and fit true to size.

I like these sandals but I haven't found my sole mate. They're very pretty, they fit nicely, and they're way better than most flip flops in terms of foot support. I'm just picky and I'd like more arch support. For days I won't constantly be on my feet, they're fine, but for days when I'll be moving or standing a lot, I'll opt for sneakers or more supporting shoes. Buy them because they're cute, not because you're expecting the footbed to rock your world.

I got this hat before a trip to Honduras. I ended up wearing it constantly. I really like the wide brim and the soft woven texture. I felt protected and sexy, which (let's be honest) is a rare combo. Be careful when you pack it. Don't bend the brim, lay it flat. And, oh, this isn't the best in the wind for the very reason that makes it so great in the sun.

I've never been a big fan of juicy little energy chews. Until I tried these. The limeade caffeinated are my favorite. They're soft and not too sweet and they pack just enough of a caffeine boost with electrolytes that they are a great addition to the rest of my endurance nutrition pantry. Note that I don't mix these with other brand chews in the same run. I have a sensitive stomach and mixing with Clif or other versions gives me stomach issues. I stick to Honey Stinger only and I'm good to go.

I first tried these at work when I was suffering a mid-afternoon bonk. My neighbor handed me one in a desperate attempt to keep me from sleeping on my keyboard. So delicious! I now take them with me on my long runs. They're tasty, easy to digest, and they don't upset my stomach. The only downside, if you'd consider it that, is that sometimes when you run at a good pace and munch at the same time, you can inhale little waffle crumbs down the wrong pipe. I guess that's a risk you take when you partake of solid food when you're really moving... Don't let that stop you from enjoying serious waffle goodness out there.
